My wife and I have been retired for some years now, and have learned that the best way to enjoy your retirement and maintain good health, is to remain active.
We sought out activities such as lawn bowling, bridge, puzzles, hiking and walking, but we thought it would be a good idea to provide one site that has links to these activities, and to places where you can find them.
We live on Vancouver Island and spend three months in Sun City, Arizona in the winter, to take advantage of the world-class lawn bowling that takes place in Sun City.
It is in Sun City that we learned about many other activities that people can use to maintain their mental and physical fitness. The recreation centers there are beautifully equipped. They feature lawn bowling, shuffleboard, pickle ball, golf, mini-golf, fitness centers, swimming, aquafit lessons, tennis, and arts and crafts.
We often saw people in their late 80's and early 90's participating in these activities, and realized that the reason they were that old, was the fact that they did participate in these activities!
Vancouver Island also features many senior activity centers and an environment suited to retired people. All the activities featured in Sun City are available on Vancouver Island (with the possible exception of Pickleball), and the weather is sunny and dry in the summer months.
As is well known, Florida is another great retirement state with lots of things for retirees to do. Some people prefer the higher humidity there compared to Sun City, but others do well in the dryer climate. Both get quite hot in the summer though.
Many seniors today can be thankful we were born into this generation that can afford to travel to sun destinations and seek out these amenities. It may be that future generations will not be able to afford this.
Speaking of travel, that is another activity that helps to improve the mind and sooth the soul.
If you see an activity or destination that you think should be on our pages, please email the Webmaster (that's us!).
